FOUR PAWS saves mother and daughter orangutans from certain death!
The FOUR PAWS team in Borneo, Indonesia, has rescued a pair of vulnerable orangutans from a terrible fate. It came to our attention that palm oil companies were offering locals £75 for every orangutan they killed! The companies see orangutans as pests. So the team headed straight to the affected area to search for survivors. They seemed to be no sign of life, but we never gave up hope. Luckily, the team were tipped off about two orangutans that had been seen nearby and immediately left to check.
FOUR PAWS reached these two orangutans in the nick of time! A mother and daughter were huddled together, cowering from the group of young men that circled them. They were happy to hand over the fearful apes to us…until they realised that we would not be paying out the reward that they expected. Nevertheless, we managed to rescue the pair and they were brought to our rehabilitation centre in Samboja.
On examining the rescued orangutans, our team in Borneo made a fantastic discovery – we had saved not just two lives, but three! Amazingly, the mother appears to be pregnant! FOUR PAWS worked hard to have her and her daughter released into a protected and safe rainforest area, as she is a wild orangutan and could have easily become stressed in her holding cage at the rehabilitation centre. On the 25th of January, the two orangutans were released into their new and safe home.
Our brave team in Borneo have managed to save the lives of three orangutans, but we need your help to continue our work! Whatever you can spare today – whether it be £15, £25 or £50 -will help to fund our rescue centre in Borneo and safeguard the future of these intelligent yet desperate apes.
Thank you in advance for anything you can give.
